SNL Season 46 Episode 1: Chris Rock Sketches Ranked

First Debate Cold Open

  • Bringing in the big guns here with Alec Baldwin, Jim Carey, and Maya Rudolph – great choices.
  • “Mr. President, if you keep interrupting this debate, I’ll do absolutely nothing about it.”
  • This is actually less chaotic than the actual debate.
  • Jim’s Joe Biden face is scarily spot on.
  • This was highly anticipated as everyone has been waited for SNL to absolutely rip on that debate.
  • Overall, great sketch that has also gone viral. Perfect way to bring in past favorite cast members to start off Season 46.

8.5/10

Chris Rock Monologue

  • Right off that bat, I have to say Chris Rock is such a great speaker. He truly captivates when he is on stage.
  • Lots of thought-provoking lines.
  • Very profound monologue as the season opener, and I am sure glad it started out that way.

7/10

  • Off to a very strong start with “Edith Puthie”
  • “Hopefully you can find Mike Litt later and finish what you started there.”
  • Mikey and Beck did a great job as reporters at the scene.
  • Overall funny concept of all bad names.

7.5/10

Bottom of Your Face ft. Megan Thee Stallion

  • Ego keeping up with Megan is everything.
  • When the girls started roasting the guys and then Chris Redd goes “Okay y’all took this a way I ain’t mean.”
  • Chris Redd and Chris Rock crushed it in this.
  • Song is catchy!

8/10

Future Ghost

  • Kind of funny how he was only focused on the advancement in technology.
  • “And she’s a dentist now, respect!”
  • Overall, just okay. I think the idea of this sketch is funnier than the actual sketch.

4/10

The Drew Barrymore Show

  • Chloe’s impressions are so spot on.
  • From Drew to Reese to Nicole, so impressive.
  • “I feel that Linda, and that’s why we’re paying to renovate your walk-in closet!”

7/10

Weekend Update

  • Good number of funny jokes ripping on Trump

5.5/10

  • Bowen Yang is definitely a standout cast member. He really takes his characters to the next level. There was a lot stacked into his 3-minute slot.

7.5/10

  • White Claw joke was pretty funny.

7/10

  • Her saying Michael made me laugh.

5/10

OVERALL AVERAGE OF MY RATINGS OF WEEKEND UPDATE: 6.25

NBA Bubble

  • Kind of a confusing intro to the premise.
  • Pretty bland, nothing shocking, just the repeat of different women coming in.
  • Love Maya Rudolph to death, but I wished they could have included her in a different sketch, not even Maya could save this.

2/10

Stunt Performers

  • “Which was hard because then we had to go and shoot the scene.” – best line
  • Kate and Aidy make a great duo.
  • I really enjoyed their roles in this sketch, however I felt that it still had potential to be more.

SNL Season 47 Episode 1: Owen Wilson Sketches Ranked

Biden Unites Democrats Cold Open

  • Scooby Doo line – very funny
  • James’ Biden is spot on. I also really enjoy Alex’s Chuck Schumer impression in this.
  • I wish the cold open was a bit shorter, as the average attention span of viewers is not this long.

4/10

Owen Wilson Monologue

  • Solid Monologue from Owen Wilson tonight.
  • I am a little bummed as this would have been the perfect time for Melissa to show off her perfect Owen Wilson impression.
  • Not too much to say here. Good monologue that got the show starting on a high note.

6.5/10

Women’s Talk Show

  • Sketch didn’t do anything for me.
  • Cecily’s “I can’t keep up!” when talking about how to say the Pope was pretty funny.
  • Overall felt as though the premise wasn’t strong enough and the delivery of the lines didn’t do anything to carry the weight either.

3/10

Billionaire Star Trek

  • Mikey’s Elon Musk was a funny addition.
  • Personally, I love the slapstick comedy sketches. This was not meant to one of those sketches, however the performances here were good so I am doing my best to focus on that.
  • Overall, this didn’t stand out to me, but the impressions were good.

5.5/10

Cars 4

  • Owen’s first “Kachow” sounds like it made everyone in the audience happy (including me).
  • Funny concept of the inappropriate lines for the next Cars movie.
  • James’ Larry the Cable Guy impression is very good, hopefully they keep using James this season!
  • Funny to bring in that scene with Mater’s sister. “Power!”

8/10

School Board Meeting

  • Mikey’s voice is hilarious.
  • Andrew’s soft “bitch” might have been my favorite line from the whole episode.
  • Pete’s Dog the Bounty Hunter appearance is pretty great.
  • I like how this sketch had the rotation of many new and old cast members. It gave a lot of them a quick spotlight on the first episode.
  • Bowen’s recurring joke was a good addition to the sketch.

7.5/10

Weekend Update

“If I was wanted, probably wouldn’t be missing”

“The paint is so white, I’m it’s favorite part of SNL.” – Colin Jost

Some funny likes from Pete jabbing at his Met Gala outfit and also at Colin’s Tom and Jerry movie.

Overall, Great Weekend Update to start off the new season. Solid jokes from everyone and a tribute to Norm.

7/10

Funeral Song

  • Heidi’s stills in the background are making me laugh
  • “and then she jumped”
  • Keenan playing the beat for the second song on the casket was already funny so the fact that it ended up being “Ignition” was just marvelous.
  • Overall, I think this sketch had a lot of great jokes, however it wasn’t showstopping.

7/10

NFL on Fox

  • James’ Announcer voice is spot on.
  • Funny how the Crazy House promo is always incoming on James’ ear as if its breaking news for the broadcasters.
  • Thumbs up for the Crazy House interruptions getting larger on the screen every time.
  • The recurring “Troy, let’s not guess” line is pretty funny.
  • James has had a lot of appearances this episode. He has flawlessly showcased himself. He makes it seem as though he has been here longer than just this episode!
  • Short but sweet sketch

7/10

Main-In Testing Service

  • Happy to see two featured players take control this sketch.
  • Andrew and Sarah are showing good comedic chemistry together, looking forward to their future skits.
  • Can see Aristotle sporadically throughout this episode, hoping we will be able to see more of him this season.
  • Overall, this sketch didn’t stand out to me, but I still enjoyed watching it.

SNL Season 47 Episode 9: Paul Rudd Sketches Ranked

THE HOST: Paul Rudd

This post is going to be a little different than all of my other ranking posts. This is because this SNL had a very unfortunate last-minute change happen this week. Due to a COVID outbreak at SNL, majority of the cast and crew were unable to be present for the show. Only two cast members, Michael Che and Kenen Thomson were able to join. Tom Hanks and Tina Fey joined as well, with Tina joining Michael Che in Weekend Update.

Paul Rudd joined the FiveTimers Club this episode. Most sketches were not able to be done, there were still some pre-taped sketches that they aired. Aside from those, this episode was filled with past holiday sketches.

THE CHRISTMAS SOCKS

As the episode progressed, I was getting sad as I thought all of the sketches shown would only be from past years. Then Christmas Socks saved the day. It was getting increasingly funnier as it went on. Just when I thought it was ending, TJ Rocks jumped in!

Honestly, I didn’t enjoy the other new sketches that they showed; therefore, I will only include this one.

There were many reruns that I did enjoy, including a funny sketch with Ryan Gosling, and this sketch with Chris Rock.

Even though this episode did not go as planned. I think it was inspiring to see that the show still went on. They did what they could their situation. I do feel bad for Paul, as this was his FiveTimers episode. Hopefully SNL will get him back on as a host as soon as it possible and safe to do so.

What did you think from this episode? Was there another sketch you loved? Do you wish to see Paul Rudd host again? Let me know!

SNL Season 47 Episode 4: Jason Sudeikis Sketches Ranked

THE HOST: Jason Sudeikis

Jason Sudeikis is an American actor, comedian, producer and writer. Jason was in the SNL cast for ten years. Now he is starring in the Apple TV hit TV show, Ted Lasso (very good!). One of his most popular characters, The Devil, which actually comes back for an appearance in this episode.

How my ratings work:

There are 3 rankings possible. These will be chosen as my personal top 3 skits of the episode. The rankings go from bronze, to silver, and then gold. Gold will take on the glory of being as my favorite skit of the night.

There will also be an honorable mention. This may be only a short line from a character, a group of characters, or maybe even a whole skit that I find worthy of getting a spotlight.

DISCLAIMER: These are my PERSONAL ratings. Keep in mind I am a 20-year-old college student so our humor may not be the same. The skits that I think are the funniest may not be the funniest to you, and that’s okay! That being said, I would love to hear if you do disagree! Below is a poll with all skits from this episode, PLEASE vote for your favorite skit from this episode! There is also a comment section below, let me know your thoughts!

BRONZE: Science Room

Fun Fact: Melissa accidentally mispronounced the name “Lonnie.” Jason’s reaction to him “mispronouncing” the girls name wrong this whole time was all improvs! Melissa mentioned this on her Instagram story shortly after the episode aired.

SILVER: Mellen

The upbeat “I’m Mellen” lines in between the obscure talk show moments had me laughing. If anyone else was to play Mellen in this skit, I’m not sure I would’ve loved it as much. Jason was perfect. His mannerisms and delivery are so great in this. I love all of the talk show quirks that are just knockoffs of Ellen.

GOLD: The Devil on His Latest Accomplishments

Happy to see the devil after many years. The devil has been very busy and was happy to let us know what was under his name. Funny that he confirmed QAnon wasn’t even his doing. This was very enjoyable to watch and felt like only one minute. once it was finished, I thought it was done too quick! I think that was a good sign I should rate it the gold for this episode.

Honorable Mention: Aidy and Aristotle in Declaration Pitch

Aidy and Aristotle show up at the end of this skit. They are only there for maybe 20 seconds, but I think it was my favorite 20 seconds of the whole show. It is so random; I am so happy a writer decided to think of it. Aidy breaking character and Aristotle following in laughter only made it better.

SNL Season 47 Episode 5: Kieran Culkin Sketches Ranked

THE HOST: Kieran Culkin

Kieran Culkin is a 39-year-old American Actor. He began his career as a child in the Home Alone films. His brother, Macaulay Culkin, was the lead in the Home Alone films as well. BRONZE: Men’s Room

This sketch truly captures the uncomfortableness of a real men’s work bathroom. Inner monologue sketches are difficult to accomplish successfully, as many times the timing of the joke is off due to the character having to jump back and forth between monologue and skit. However, that wasn’t the case for this sketch as the monologue fit perfectly. Side note: Bowen can crush any role that he is given, he is so good!

SILVER: Please Don’t Destroy: Calling Angie

The Please Don’t Destroy Boys are back with another refreshing skit. One of the boys wants Angie back into his life. While he is sincere and vulnerable about her with his friends, he is uncontrollably an asshole to her the second he gets her on the phone. The skit picks up when his friends try to recover the situation and start accidentally ripping on her too. They are a breath of fresh air in this season. I am very excited for their future on this show.

GOLD: Cancelling Cable

This skit took cancelling cable to the extreme as Brad Herman was being transferred through the whole workforce of Spectrum. This was my favorite Kieran Culkin sketch of the night. Mikey Day was also a treat with his “Of course Mr. Herman” lines. Just as I thought the skit was ending, Spectrum himself made an entrance.

Honorable Mention: Kieran Culkin Monologue

Kieran’s monologue was very fun to watch. This was actually not his first appearance on SNL. He was last seen on the show as a young boy. An old clip was shown where one of the cast members picked little Kieran up and everyone cheered. His monologue made a great introduction to the episode.

Below is a poll with all skits from this episode, PLEASE vote for your favorite skit from this episode! There is also a comment section below, let me know your thoughts!

BRONZE: Broadway Benefit

In this skit, a sweet couple take their young daughter watch a Broadway show that the mom watched all the time as a child. Turns out, the whole musical was about drugs! This was my favorite Jonathon Majors performance from this episode. Jonathon’s impressive dance moves really made an impact too.

SILVER: Man Park

“Marvel?”

“Marvel!”

“MARVEL!”

“MARVEL!”

Watching men bonding with other men at a man park was something I didn’t realize I missed in life.

GOLD: Please Don’t Destroy – Three Sad Virgins

The Please Don’t Destroy boys strike again with this hilarious music video starring Pete Davidson and Taylor Swift. Pete Davidson plays his cool celebrity self as he humiliates the three boys, calling them “three sad virgins.”

Honorable Mention: Weekend Update – Sarah Sherman

Really loved Sarah’s energy in this. The “Breaking news” lines from Sarah kept getting better and better. I felt like everyone was genuinely enjoying the back and forth with her, rather than other episodes where it is not as strong. Looking forward to seeing what Sarah does in the future!

SNL Season 47 Episode 8: Billie Eilish Sketches Ranked

THE HOST: Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish is a 20-year-old singer and songwriter. She first started gaining a large audience with the song “Ocean Eyes” in 2015. Since then, she has released 2 studio albums, gone on tour, and has won 7 Grammys! She works alongside her brother Finneas (who also makes an appearance in this episode!). Billie has a documentary that was released in 2021. It gave an interesting glimpse of her life from her point of view, check it out on Apple TV!

BRONZE: Santa Song

Wasn’t expecting to love this skit when I started watching it, however it grew on me very quick. Billie’s acting was a very pleasant surprise this episode and pairing it with her phenomenal voice made it so perfect. The ladies in the back jumping in with their jokes made me laugh as well. All around a very enjoyable skit.

SILVER: TikTok

Wow…I must say…this was painful to watch. Painful because it was a little TOO accurate! Let me tell ya, I’m on TikTok EVERYDAY. Every clip in this skit, was referenced from a real TikToker. I understood EVERY reference! So accurate it was scary! Because of this, I thought this skit was very funny.

GOLD: Lonely Christmas

I definitely missed Kate Mckinnon while she was away in the beginning of the season. I am SO happy she is back! This skit was absolutely hilarious with its dark humor. These are the kinds of segments where you know the character is going to come back with more, and you can’t wait for what they will say next. This was a 10/10 Skit for me.

Honorable Mention: Weekend Update (Andrew Dismukes)

Andrew Dismuke’s amazing animals shocked me. Love the dark humor route.

If the octopus says that he will die in 7 days makes me think… that next episode he might have a skit where he “dies.” It would be really well thought out if that ends up happening, I guess we will find out soon!

2nd Honorable Mention: Angelo Christmas

Deeply wish this skit wasn’t cut for time. This has been the second appearance of Angelo and his wonderful performances. Angelo ranks as one of my favorite skits ever. The simplicity of the joke will never be old to me. Another feature of this skit that I love that that this segment is perfectly set up to always allow a host to jump in, which makes each one unique in its own way.

SNL Season 47 Episode 7: Simu Liu Sketches Ranked

THE HOST: SIMU LIU

Simu’s age, at the time of this episode, is 32 years old. He started off his acting career as a stuntman, and slowly started to dive into the acting side of the industry where he got his first main role on CBS’s Kim’s Convenience in 2015. He is best known for playing the lead in the 2021 Marvel movie that is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Below is a poll with all skits from this episode, PLEASE vote for your favorite skit from this episode! There is also a comment section below, let me know your thoughts!

BRONZE: Target Thanksgiving Ad

Everything about this skit was so accurate. Simu Liu was a little too good at being the annoying new boyfriend. I considered giving him this week’s honorable mention for that character alone. His talk about watching a Netflix special on animal cruelty and his mansplaining about cryptocurrency was giving me actual war flashbacks. The one family bringing a dog even though they were asked specifically not made me chuckle as well. These painfully accurate yet funny people were why I decided to give this skit the bronze for this episode.

SILVER: Thanksgiving Baking Championship

The cakes being alive is what singlehandedly got this skit the silver for this episode. Mike (Simu Liu)’s little rap at the beginning of his cake reveal made me laugh too.

GOLD: Simu & Bowen

Lots of jokes in this skit. Absolutely loved Bowen’s quick IBS joke. From the splash mountain deadpan to the “You Pick 2” Panera awards, there were so many jokes that fit into only three minutes. Bowen’s competitive twist at the end solidified the Gold for this episode.

Honorable Mention: Please Don’t Destroy – Touch Up

This skit was cut for time, but I personally loved it. These guys can not miss!
